Dig Food Group is a socially conscious fast-casual restaurant group dedicated to transforming the food system by creating partnerships with farmers and focusing on cooking and serving delicious, scratch-made food. With over 30 fast-casual Dig restaurant locations, a full-service restaurant called 232 Bleecker, and partnerships with 130 farms including their own Dig Acres, Dig Food Group has established itself as a leader in sourcing high-quality, sustainable ingredients and supporting diverse, independent farmers such as first-timers, women, immigrants, LGBTQ individuals, and people of color. Their kitchens operate without microwaves, can openers, or freezers, emphasizing fresh, on-site vegetable preparation and authentic cooking methods. The organization’s mission is to build a better food system where farmers can make a sustainable living, anyone can learn to cook, and communities come together around a shared table to enjoy great food. Diversity, inclusivity, and cultural awareness are deeply embedded in the company's values and they actively encourage diverse applicants to join their team.
The Shift Lead role, also referred to as the Sous Chef position, is a full-time hourly opportunity based in Boston, offering a competitive pay rate of $18-20 per hour plus tips. The shift lead plays a critical role in supporting restaurant leaders to achieve culinary and hospitality excellence. They are responsible for mastering every station in the kitchen by faithfully executing recipes, processes, and procedures to drive consistency across all menu offerings. An essential part of this role involves training and mentoring Chefs-In-Training to develop their culinary skills, fostering a positive work environment, and maintaining high standards of food safety and quality. The shift lead will also oversee shift operations including managing prep lists, waste logs, inventory, and food ordering systems to ensure seamless food preparation and service. Strong leadership skills are a must, as the shift lead will be writing shift deployments, delegating tasks, opening and closing the restaurant, and addressing guest concerns promptly. Communicating effectively with team members and maintaining collaboration with the leadership team is vital to create an organized and motivating work environment.
This position is ideal for someone passionate about culinary craft and leadership who is eager to learn and grow within the Dig Food Group brigade system. The team uses a traditional brigade kitchen structure where the shift lead partners with Chefs-In-Training and reports directly to Restaurant Leaders, creating a clear chain of command and vertical communication. Dig Food Group places significant emphasis on professional development, encouraging growth and providing opportunities to expand skills beyond typical kitchen roles.

Food Safety Certification is mandatory due to the company's commitment to maintaining an "A" letter grade with the Department of Health and strict adherence to food safety protocols. The role offers more than just a job: employees enjoy complimentary daily lunches, a supportive culture, interview shadowing, feedback opportunities, and the chance to contribute to the growth and future of the Dig Food Group.
