Fresno, CA, USA, CA Full-Time $85,224 - $103,104
The City of Fresno is a progressive municipality committed to delivering exceptional public services to its residents while fostering a supportive work environment for its employees. Situated in the heart of California’s Central Valley, Fresno is known for its dynamic community, growing economy, and strategic location. Within the city government’s organizational structure, the Airport/Operations Department plays a vital role in managing the Fresno Yosemite International Airport (FAT), which serves as a major travel hub connecting the region to national and international destinations. The Airport/Operations Department is responsible for maintaining the highest standards of safety, security, and operational efficiency at the airport, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Currently, the City of Fresno is seeking to recruit a Supervising Airports Operations Officer to join the team at the Fresno Yosemite International Airport. This is a professional position classified under Unit 13 of the City of Fresno Professional Employees Association (CFPEA). The role reports directly to the Airports Operations Manager and is integral in performing advanced and complex duties relating to airport operations management. Key responsibilities include planning, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating the work of assigned staff with a sharp focus on maintaining compliance with FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), TSA (Transportation Security Administration), and other relevant regulations. This role requires a highly motivated individual who can monitor and inspect multiple aspects of the airport environment, such as the airfield, terminal, perimeter, grounds, and personnel. The Supervising Airports Operations Officer is tasked with identifying issues or deficiencies within these areas and reporting them promptly to ensure corrective action is taken. Beyond these routine inspections, the role extends to keeping abreast of updates and changes to airport regulations, ensuring the department’s policies and procedures remain current and fully compliant. This involves interpreting a variety of federal, state, and local regulations, which demands a strong understanding of airport operational standards and safety requirements. There are currently two vacancies available in this department, and the eligible list resulting from this recruitment will be valid for three months, with the potential for extension up to two years at the City’s discretion. The recruitment process remains open until filled or until a sufficient number of applications have been received, and it may close at any time. The City of Fresno offers a competitive compensation package and a comprehensive benefits program for this role. Benefits include health insurance coverage involving medical, dental, and vision plans for employees and dependents, participation in flexible spending accounts for health and dependent care expenses, deferred compensation plans, management leave, annual leave accrual with cash-out options, supplemental sick leave, and recognized city-observed holidays with personal days. Employees also benefit from life insurance, long-term disability insurance, bilingual premium pay, health reimbursement arrangements for retirees, and a well-funded public retirement system with reciprocity to other California public agencies. The Supervising Airports Operations Officer position requires candidates to meet minimum qualifications before the filing deadline, including a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management or a closely related field and a minimum of two years of airport operations experience, especially relating to compliance and facility inspections at a FAR Part 139 airport. Additional conditions include a valid driver’s license, completion of a Department interview, and passing a Department of Justice fingerprint check. The City commits to equal opportunity employment and encourages qualified candidates to apply online through the official City of Fresno website.
