The role of the Ramp Agent is pivotal in the smooth functioning of airport ground operations. Ramp Agents are responsible for handling various critical tasks associated with aircraft servicing, baggage handling, and cargo management. This position requires individuals who are physically fit, detail-oriented, and capable of working in a fast-paced and sometimes outdoor environment. Ramp Agents ensure that aircraft are safely loaded and unloaded and that all customer baggage, air cargo, and airmail are properly handled with care to prevent any loss, theft, or damage. Ramp Agents operate a variety of motorized equipment such as belt loaders, pushback tugs, lift trucks, and air start units to assist with these duties. They must maintain clear communication with Wing Walkers to ensure safe pushback operations. This role also involves recording and maintaining accurate documentation related to cargo and baggage handling activities using company information systems. Additionally, Ramp Agents assist with transporting cargo, baggage, and company materials to and from aircraft and ensure rigorous adherence to safety protocols during all operations. Successful candidates must undergo ramp and Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) training to obtain airport authority identification security clearance, signifying readiness to comply with airport security measures. This job demands the ability to lift and move heavy items regularly, perform various physical activities such as walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, stooping, and working in confined or high locations. Ramp Agents must be able to work about jetway stairs carrying heavy loads and maintain a professional manner in communication both verbally and via radio equipment.
