The operations at KBFS comply meticulously with multiple Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications, underscoring its commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Our KBFS subsidiary is currently seeking an experienced and highly qualified Chief Flight Instructor/Certified Flight Instructor Instrument (Rotary Wing) to join our team, based at the Temple Draughon-Miller Regional Airport in Temple, Texas. This role is available in either a part-time or full-time capacity for a suitable candidate, with an attractive sign-on bonus offered for those opting for full-time engagement. The Chief Flight Instructor (CFI) role is central to the leadership and operational success of the rotary wing flight training program. This position involves the delivery of both Primary and Advanced helicopter flight and ground instruction, preparing students and rated pilots to meet and exceed standards required to achieve FAA certifications including Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, and Instrument Rating on selected rotary wing aircraft.
The Chief Flight Instructor is responsible for conducting proficiency checks for flight instructors, ensuring compliance with FAA regulations through recurrent proficiency evaluations, and overseeing flight scheduling and training operations. The role demands close monitoring and mentoring of assigned flight instructors, ensuring the highest standards of training, safety, and regulatory compliance are maintained. The successful candidate will serve as the primary point of contact with the FAA Flight Standardization District Office (FSDO), managing all operational, instructional, and safety communication pertinent to KBFS rotary wing operations.
Key to this leadership role is the ability to maintain proficiency across a variety of rotary wing and utility aircraft, including but not limited to R44, UH-1H, and Bell 206 helicopters. Candidates must possess a minimum of 1000 hours Pilot in Command time, with at least 400 hours dedicated to rotary wing Certified Flight Instructor roles. The ability to qualify as a Chief Flight Instructor for multi-engine rotary wing aircraft and experience with external load operations is highly desirable, with opportunities to certify as a Part 133 Chief Pilot following additional training. Prior Part 135 Chief Pilot experience will be a strong asset.
The Chief Flight Instructor will develop and deliver custom flight and ground training programs aligned with FAA Flight Instructor Handbook standards, maintain student and instructor training records, and assist with FAA course materials and curriculum development. This role requires oversight of care and sustainment training for a team comprising flight instructors and specialist maintenance personnel. The candidate will also play a pivotal role in supporting the enforcement and administration of the KBFS Safety Management System (SMS), contributing to the highest level of operational risk mitigation and safety culture development.
In summary, this is a prestigious opportunity for an accomplished rotary wing aviation professional seeking to leverage extensive teaching and leadership experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.
