Posted on December 22, 2025
The hiring establishment is an Air Traffic Control Tower operating under the jurisdiction of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards, responsible for managing the safe and efficient flow of air traffic in compliance with Visual Flight Rules (VFR). Operating within a critical sector of the aviation industry, this facility leverages cutting-edge technology and highly trained personnel to ensure the orderly and secure movement of aircraft entering, departing, and transiting the designated airport airspace. As part of a network of air traffic control services, the tower plays a pivotal role in preventing collisions, expediting the flow of air traffic, and providing vital information to pilots and other stakeholders to maintain optimal safety and operational standards.
This particular role is that of a Control Tower Operator, tasked with conducting air traffic control duties under the general supervision of a Tower Manager. The incumbent is entrusted with ensuring the safe, orderly, and expeditious movement of air traffic within the tower's jurisdiction, particularly under Visual Flight Rules conditions. Given the high-stakes nature of the position, operators must perform duties independently while adhering to established procedures and work collaboratively with other controllers when necessary. The role requires vigilance, precision, and seasoned decision-making when managing diverse air traffic scenarios, including departures, arrivals, runway use, and traffic sequencing.
The individual in this role will be responsible for managing aircraft take-off and landing sequences to guarantee standard separation and equitable treatment of all air traffic, including IFR and VFR flights. They will control radio communications, navigational aids, and equipment such as BRITE displays to monitor and direct traffic flows effectively. The role includes a substantial coordination element, interfacing with other control facilities, and proactive traffic planning to maintain smooth operations in high-traffic conditions. Additionally, operators will need to interface with weather reports and forecasts to evaluate conditions and disseminate critical information to pilots and management offices.
Given the technical and regulatory nature of the job, incumbents must maintain certification as a Control Tower Operator and meet medical standards, including ongoing drug and alcohol testing requirements. The job demands acute situational awareness and the ability to manage multiple complex variables simultaneously, including air traffic patterns, weather changes, and operational contingencies like emergencies or equipment malfunctions.
The hourly pay rate for this position is $42.74 with an additional hazard wage rate of $4.93, reflecting the responsibilities and expertise required to maintain air safety and operational efficiency. This employment opportunity is ideal for professionals with prior air traffic control tower experience who are seeking a challenging and rewarding environment with a focus on safety, precision, and regulatory compliance.
The Control Tower Operator also engages in on-the-job training responsibilities, imparting critical operational knowledge to trainees and assisting in proficiency maintenance both for themselves and others. This position involves continuous learning and adaptation, demanding a commitment to regulatory compliance and operational excellence within the domain of air traffic control.
