Air Traffic Control Specialist - Quick Hire!
Posted on October 24, 2025
The hiring organization is a specialized Air Traffic Control facility responsible for managing the safe and efficient flow of aircraft within a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Air Traffic Control Tower environment. This establishment plays a crucial role in ensuring that air traffic operations within its designated airspace are conducted in an orderly, safe, and expeditious manner, primarily focusing on visual flight rules scenarios which demand precise and highly attentive control operations. The establishment operates under stringent regulations guided by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and adheres to high standards to maintain air traffic safety, supporting both inbound and outbound flights with a disciplined approach and expert coordination.
This Air Traffic Control Tower position involves the incumbent working under the general supervision of a Tower Manager but requires a high level of independent decision-making and operational execution. The Tower Manager provides oversight, especially when new or revised procedures are implemented, granting detailed instructions initially and monitoring the work carefully until confidence in the controller's independent capability is established. The role requires making critical decisions surrounding the order and timing of departures, sequencing inbound aircraft safely and efficiently, selecting active runways, coordinating arrivals and departures to minimize delays, and ensuring compliance with IFR separation standards as delegated by approach control or the central air traffic control center.
In this role, the controller is directly responsible for communicating and coordinating effectively with pilots, other controllers, and aviation personnel to maintain continuous situational awareness of all aircraft within the controlled airspace. This includes preplanning traffic sequencing beyond the immediate airport vicinity, managing communications frequencies and navigational aids, monitoring radar and control displays, and using various lighting and signaling equipment within the tower to aid aircraft operations. The controller also monitors weather conditions closely, interpreting weather reports and pilot reports, and conveys critical weather and operational information to pilots to ensure safe flight operations.
Additional responsibilities include orienting and assisting pilots who may be lost or experiencing difficulty, coordinating emergency responses when necessary, and handling IFR traffic as part of the control duties. Controllers are expected to undertake lower-grade duties when required to maintain operational proficiency and provide on-the-job training to other personnel, ensuring all air traffic operations meet regulatory standards and best practices.
Employment type is full-time with competitive compensation, including a base pay rate of $48.18 per hour with an hourly wage supplement of $4.98. The position is subject to strict FAA and Department of Transportation regulations including mandatory drug and alcohol testing before employment and at random or cause-based intervals thereafter. This robust and demanding position is ideal for highly skilled air traffic control professionals committed to maintaining the highest safety and efficiency standards in aviation traffic control.
