Air Traffic Control Specialist - Quick Hire!
Posted on October 24, 2025
This position is offered by an established air traffic control facility responsible for managing the safe and efficient flow of aircraft within a Visual Flight Rules (VFR) Air Traffic Control Tower environment. The facility operates under stringent safety and operational regulations, employing highly skilled and trained personnel to coordinate the movement of incoming and outgoing flights. The primary goal is to maintain orderly and expeditious air traffic, ensuring equitable treatment of all aircraft while preventing delays and maintaining safety standards. The facility supports the aviation community by providing expert guidance and coordination through a network of communications and navigational aids to pilots and other controllers.
The role of the Air Traffic Control Tower Operator is crucial in maintaining the safety and timeliness of air traffic operations. Reporting to the Tower Manager, the incumbent has the responsibility to independently perform established duties related to the control and coordination of aircraft movements within the airspace managed by the tower. This includes making critical decisions about departure sequences, timing, directions of takeoff, use of runways, and managing both Visual Flight Rules (VFR) and Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) traffic. The operator must apply FAA regulations and separation standards to ensure a safe and efficient flow of traffic both on the ground and in the air.
In this position, the Air Traffic Control Tower Operator also monitors and manages communications frequencies and navigational aids to maintain continuous contact with pilots, providing timely instructions for changes in radio frequencies and radar codes. They collaborate with other controllers to coordinate arrivals and departures, maintaining a mental picture of evolving traffic patterns while managing the complexities of airspace that can extend several miles around the airport.
Weather conditions are critically important to air traffic control; therefore, the operator studies reports and forecasts, observes weather changes visually from the tower, and advises pilots about field conditions, altimeter settings, and navigational aid statuses. They are responsible for operating lighting systems and safety equipment on the airfield and for facilitating emergency responses when necessary by directing confused or distressed pilots and coordinating with airport operations, fire, and medical services.
Safety adherence is paramount, and this role requires compliance with DOT and FAA requirements, including drug and alcohol testing protocols. The position offers a competitive pay rate of $41.65 per hour with an additional hazardous weather (HW) rate of $4.98. This job not only demands technical proficiency and operational expertise but also the ability to provide on-the-job training to new controllers to ensure continuous operational excellence. Overall, the Air Traffic Control Tower Operator plays an integral role in safeguarding the skies and ensuring smooth, reliable, and efficient air travel.
