East Hampton, NY, USA, NY Full-Time $44 - $44
The hiring establishment is a vital air traffic control facility specializing in Visual Flight Rules (VFR) operations within an Air Traffic Control Tower. This type of organization plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, orderly, and efficient management of air traffic around airports, focusing on both arrivals and departures of aircraft under visual meteorological conditions. The Air Traffic Control Tower serves as a crucial hub for maintaining safety standards in aviation by providing precise directions and instructions to pilots to regulate air traffic flow effectively and prevent collisions. The company operates under strict federal regulations and employs highly skilled professionals who are responsible for the coordination and management of air traffic within controlled airspace. Employees at this establishment are expected to perform their duties with careful attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining operational safety at all times. The position being offered is for an Air Traffic Controller who specializes in VFR Tower operations and is essential for overseeing air traffic in a manner that adheres to FAA rules and guidelines. This role involves both independent work and collaboration with other controllers and supervisors to manage the complex and dynamic environment of airport airspace. The Air Traffic Controller in this role will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft in the airport vicinity. The incumbent will work closely with the Tower Manager, who provides general supervision, especially when new or revised procedures are introduced. The ideal candidate will be proficient in decision-making regarding aircraft sequencing, runway usage, takeoff and landing timing, and traffic separation to assure both VFR and IFR traffic operates under safe and fair conditions. Essential duties include managing the order of departures, coordinating the timing and direction of takeoffs, and overseeing the use of runways to ensure standard separation is maintained. The controller will also be tasked with determining availability and usability of communication frequencies, coordinating with other air traffic control facilities for arrival and departure movements, and monitoring navigational aids to provide timely information to pilots. Because air traffic control requires high situational awareness and rapid response, this position demands attention to safety protocols and the ability to anticipate and resolve potential conflicts in airspace. The Air Traffic Controller must also be qualified to provide training to others, demonstrate proficiency in operating control panels and surveillance systems such as BRITE displays, and perform essential weather monitoring duties. Weather observation and reporting are integral to the role, as these influence the decision-making process related to traffic management and pilot guidance. This position requires an individual holding a Control Tower Operator Certificate (CTO) with a current Class II Medical Certificate and experience working within an Air Traffic Control Tower for at least six months. Additionally, compliance with DOT/FAA testing procedures for drugs and alcohol is mandatory. The role includes significant responsibility for maintaining a safe operational environment while handling complex air traffic scenarios. This opportunity offers a chance for professionals passionate about aviation safety and airspace management to contribute to the efficient functioning of airport operations within a regulated and high-stakes environment.

  • demonstrate the ability to manage complex air traffic scenarios
  • willingness to work shifts as required
  • communicate effectively with pilots and team members
