Conroe, TX, USA, TX Hourly $48 - $48
The hiring establishment is a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulated Air Traffic Control Tower facility responsible for managing and overseeing the safe and orderly flow of air traffic under Visual Flight Rules (VFR). This facility plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety of aircraft operations within its designated airspace, coordinating landings, takeoffs, and ground traffic in a highly dynamic and often high-pressure environment. As part of the national air traffic control system, this tower ensures compliance with federal aviation regulations and provides essential services to pilots and airlines, contributing to overall airspace safety and efficiency. This particular role is essential for maintaining the smooth and safe operation of the air traffic control tower. The incumbent will be operating under the indirect supervision of a Tower Manager, who provides guidance and oversight while relying heavily on the individual's expertise to perform the duties independently. This position requires an experienced Air Traffic Controller familiar with tower procedures, communications, traffic sequencing, and radar equipment. The controller ensures that all air traffic movements—arrivals, departures, and patterns—occur in a safe, timely, and regulated manner while managing multiple priorities simultaneously. The Air Traffic Controller operates within strict regulatory frameworks, making critical decisions about aircraft sequencing, runway usage, and traffic flow management. This responsibility includes deciding the order of departures, ensuring equitable treatment of all aircraft, and coordinating with approach control and other controllers for complex scenarios such as IFR (Instrument Flight Rules) and VFR traffic integration. The controller also monitors navigation aids, manages communication frequencies, and assists pilots with clearances or instructions necessary for safe operations. Additionally, the role involves proactive monitoring of weather conditions, interpreting weather forecasts, and relaying critical information to pilots to safeguard flight operations. The Controller's ability to maintain a real-time mental map and evaluate the air traffic picture amid changing conditions is vital for preventing conflicts and delays. This position also requires communication and coordination with airport management and emergency services to support efficient responses to any aircraft in difficulty or unusual situations. Operational duties include the management of runway lighting, signaling devices, and other control mechanisms essential for facilitating takeoffs and landings in all weather conditions and times of day. The incumbent will also participate in on-the-job training (OJT) to support the development of junior controllers and maintain their own proficiency through periodic performance of lower-grade operational tasks. This full-time position offers a pay rate of $48.43 per hour with an additional hazardous duty (HW) rate of $4.98. Candidates must have a Control Tower Operator Certificate (CTO) and a current Class II Medical Certificate. Compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and FAA drug and alcohol testing protocols is mandatory, including pre-employment and random testing. The ideal candidate will have at least six months of experience holding a CTO certificate with a facility rating or FAA credential with a tower rating, ensuring readiness to handle complex air traffic control challenges independently and effectively.

  • Ability to work under general supervision performing duties independently
  • Ability to monitor and operate communication and navigational equipment
  • Strong decision-making abilities regarding aircraft sequencing and runway usage
  • Willingness to provide on-the-job training
