The company’s commitment to innovation and excellence has positioned it as a trusted partner across various government sectors, including defense, civil, and intelligence, enabling nationwide safety, efficiency, and technological advancement.
This particular opportunity involves working with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) at the FAA Regional Training Site located in Elgin, Illinois. The FAA is an agency responsible for maintaining the safety and efficiency of the nation's airspace, managing over 50,000 daily flights through a network of more than 14,000 highly trained air traffic controllers across numerous facilities. SAIC supports the FAA by providing essential air traffic control (ATC) training services, focusing on the development and ongoing education of both new and experienced air traffic controllers. This partnership ensures that the controllers are well-prepared and capable of maintaining the highest safety and professionalism standards in the National Airspace System (NAS).
The role in question is ideal for experienced former FAA TRACON controllers who bring in-depth knowledge of air traffic control operations. Candidates will contribute as instructors or supervisors, delivering training and instructional services including Air Traffic Control (ATC), Terminal Safety Evaluation Worksheets (TSEW), Terminal En Route Radar Approach (TETRA), and Radiotelephony (RTF) training. The work is full-time, daytime hours, onsite at the Elgin facility, and does not require travel or remote work. Importantly, this role offers a salary range estimated between $40,001 to $80,000, reflective of experience and qualifications.
Prospective candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of three years of Certified Professional Controller (CPC) Air Traffic Control Specialist (ATCS) experience at an FAA TRACON facility equal to or exceeding an FAA ATC Level-10 facility. These requirements ensure a high level of expertise relevant to the sophisticated nature of air traffic management training. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and capable of obtaining and maintaining a Public Trust clearance, emphasizing the sensitive and secure nature of the work environment.
SAIC values the expertise brought by retired FAA air traffic controllers and extends a special note for FERS retirees, clarifying that earnings received from this role are exempt from supplemental annuity earnings limits for retirees aged 56 to 62. This highlights an attractive opportunity for retired professionals looking to continue their involvement in the field while contributing to crucial national safety efforts.
Working within this role at SAIC offers more than just a job; it’s a chance to impact national security and aviation safety directly. Trainees benefit from your extensive hands-on operational experience, and you help shape the future of air traffic control by ensuring training quality and effectiveness. Your work ensures that the next generation of controllers is equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to manage complex and high-pressure airspace environments safely and efficiently.
With a strong organizational culture focused on professional growth, inclusivity, and continuous improvement, SAIC provides a dynamic work environment where technical expertise and leadership skills are developed and valued.
