Albuquerque, NM, USA, NM Full-Time Negotiable
SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) is a leading provider of full life-cycle services and solutions in the technical, engineering, and enterprise IT markets. The company delivers innovative technology and services that support national security and critical infrastructure sectors. SAIC is committed to excellence, quality, and innovation, helping government customers with complex challenges including aviation safety and air traffic control. The company's collaborative and supportive work environment fosters professional growth, and its involvement in vital government programs reflects its dedication to national interests. This full-time position is for an Air Traffic Control (ATC) Instructor within SAIC's Controller Training Solutions (CTS) team located at the Albuquerque ATCT/TRACON (ABQ) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The role supports air traffic controller training services for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). As an ATC Instructor, you will be instrumental in delivering top-quality classroom and simulation training to a diverse range of students, including developmental air traffic controllers and Certified Professional Controllers (CPCs). The position emphasizes hands-on instruction and requires a strong technical skill set, especially with current ATC automation and simulation systems. You will mentor students and Remote Pilot Operators (RPOs), participate in curriculum design and development, and ensure training meets FAA standards for safety and professionalism. The FAA is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of air traffic within the National Airspace System (NAS), supervising over 14,000 controllers managing more than 50,000 aircraft daily. Providing comprehensive initial and recurrent training to these controllers is a critical element of FAA's mission, achieved through a collaboration of FAA staff and contractor instructors like those at SAIC. The contractor services encompass all training phases, from new recruits to ongoing career development at various ATC facilities nationwide. The ATC Instructor role at SAIC requires a minimum of five years of FAA CPC experience controlling live traffic or recent contract instructor experience at an FAA facility, preferably matching or exceeding the complexity of the Albuquerque ATCT/TRACON. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in using ATC automation tools and simulation platforms such as TSS, AT Coach, and SGET, and they should be capable of obtaining and maintaining radar or non-radar simulation laboratory certifications. Strong interpersonal skills are essential to collaborate effectively with FAA personnel and help align training outcomes with the needs of both local facilities and the broader FAA mission. SAIC offers a supportive environment that values continuous improvement and professional development. This position does not involve travel or remote work options and requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance. Importantly, FERS retirees working in this role are exempt from supplemental annuity earnings limits, presenting attractive opportunities for seasoned professionals. Overall, this is an excellent career opportunity for experienced ATC professionals seeking to leverage their expertise to shape the next generation of air traffic controllers while contributing to national aviation safety and efficiency.
  • US citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance

  • Knowledge of ATC automation and simulation systems
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Instructor-II Simulation Laboratory Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • FAA CPC certification
