This opportunity is for the role of National Account Cargo Manager located in the West Coast territory of the United States. This position is part of the Air Capacity Sales (ACS) division within DHL Aviation. The ACS division specializes in selling excess air network capacity to Freight Forwarders, supporting DHL's growth strategy and network expansion efforts. With annual revenues exceeding 150 million dollars, ACS serves as a critical business unit within DHL Express. The National Account Cargo Manager is responsible for sustaining and growing revenue streams through strong relationships with existing customers, while actively pursuing new business opportunities within the assigned territory. The role demands close collaboration with internal teams to ensure an exceptional level of customer satisfaction and to optimize sales outcomes. The manager will engage with high-level buyers in key accounts such as Freight Forwarders, Airlines, and Indirect Air Carriers (IACs), developing tailored sales strategies that align with each customer’s business needs and strategic priorities.
Autonomy is a significant aspect of this role, as the manager operates with latitude to solve complex problems and navigate uncertainties, often making key decisions independently. The position has substantial business impact, often directing major projects that require innovative solutions and cross-department collaboration. Extensive industry knowledge is crucial for success, including familiarity with product offerings, technical details, and evolving market trends. The National Account Cargo Manager may also provide leadership and mentorship to team members, contributing to their professional development. Key responsibilities include managing customer relationships, increasing account penetration, developing and executing sales plans, leveraging data and analytics to identify opportunities, coordinating with General Sales Agents (GSAs), and representing DHL at industry events and trade shows. The role requires strong communication, negotiation, and strategic planning skills, as well as the ability to handle complex, high-stakes challenges creatively and effectively.
- BS/BA degree or equivalent in related discipline
- minimum 8 years experience in airline cargo sales or related field
- professional certification required in some areas
- ability to travel routinely up to 50 percent
- physical ability to perform sedentary to light work including lifting up to 35 pounds
- strong manual dexterity and sensory acuity
- adaptability to changing network capacity
