The AC-130J Academic/Simulator Contract Instructor (CI) Pilot position is a specialized role within the defense and aviation training sector, focused on providing expert formal aircrew academic and simulator flight training. The hiring organization is involved in high-level military aviation training, preparing officer and enlisted personnel for critical roles that include initial qualification, mission qualification, requalification, instructor upgrades, weapons systems officer (WSO) upgrade, and key staff student training. The organization operates with a commitment to excellence and precision, ensuring that all aircrew members are well-equipped to conduct close air support, air interdiction, and armed reconnaissance missions with the AC-130J aircraft. This part-time role demands a unique blend of instructional expertise and operational aviation experience. The instructor will deliver high-quality, formal instruction in subject areas such as emergency procedures, systems operation, instrument flight, and tactical operations specific to the AC-130J gunship. The role is not only about delivering instruction but also involves contributing to the development and continuous improvement of instructional systems design (ISD). This means the instructor will play a key role in designing and developing courseware, ensuring all materials meet rigorous standards and are accurately applied during training. Additionally, this position offers the opportunity for the selected candidate to become a Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) certified instructor. This certification underscores the professional recognition and standardization of the instructional skills required. Given the vital nature of military flight training, the position requires adherence to the highest standards of security and operational readiness. Candidates must be able to obtain, at minimum, an active SECRET clearance, accommodating the sensitive information and communications security (COMSEC) materials involved in their duties. The role involves delivering refresher training to qualified AC-130J aircrew members, helping maintain operational readiness and augmenting flight crew proficiency. Candidates must be flexible, creative, and responsive to the dynamic environment they will operate in, showcasing strong interpersonal communication skills and a capacity for teamwork. Effective communication—both oral and written in English—is essential for successful instructional delivery and interaction with staff and trainees. This position is suitable for highly motivated individuals with a robust background in flying the AC-130J, who have the dedication to pass on critical knowledge to the next generation of combat crew members. The position requires availability for at least 20 hours per week on a part-time basis, perfect for professionals seeking to apply their aviation experience in a training and educational mission critical to national defense. In summary, the AC-130J Academic/Simulator Contract Instructor Pilot role represents a vital link in the chain of military aviation training. It provides an opportunity to contribute directly to the warfighter's operational success by ensuring aircrew members receive top-tier, mission-specific instruction. This role is perfect for pilots with recent or highly experienced backgrounds in AC-130J operations and instructional competencies who wish to engage in meaningful work within a structured, yet adaptive, academic and simulator training environment.
