The position of Food Service Worker I at Arellanes Elementary (site number 5291) is a full-time role with a work year of 180 days. The hours are from 8:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with a generous salary range starting from $19.03 to $24.51 per hour. External candidates will begin at Step A with the starting pay of $19.03 per hour. This position primarily involves maintaining food service facilities and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment. Under supervision, the Food Service Worker I assists in food preparation, setting up food service lines, serving meals, and loading and unloading food materials and supplies. Duties also include cleaning and sanitizing food service areas, operating dishwashers, preparing sandwiches and salads, supervising children in the cafeteria as assigned, and performing basic recordkeeping. The ideal candidate for this role should have a high school diploma or equivalent and demonstrate basic knowledge of large quantity food preparation and serving methods, food service equipment operation, and simple recordkeeping procedures. Physical ability to lift and transport food supplies and stand for extended periods is essential since the role may involve exposure to heat, cold, sharp equipment, and cleaning agents. This role is critical in supporting the district’s goal of fostering a safe and healthy environment where students can receive nutritious meals essential to their academic performance and well-being. The position requires a valid California Driver's License for assignments involving vehicle operation and the ability to be insurable by the district’s liability insurance carrier.
