The Lincoln Park Public Schools Food Service Department is currently seeking an experienced Kitchen Manager for its Middle School satellite kitchen. This role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the school’s food service program, providing leadership and supervision for cafeteria staff, maintaining strict food safety and sanitation standards, and curating quality meal services that meet both district and USDA guidelines. The Kitchen Manager will report directly to the Director of Food Service and will work closely with the Food Director to optimize kitchen operations, inventory control, and employee training.
This is a 45-week position with work hours starting from 6:30 AM to 2:30 PM, designed for those dedicated to contributing valuable leadership and operational expertise within a school food service environment. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Working in this role involves managing a team of over 20 cafeteria workers, overseeing food ordering and inventory control, and maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations, including Serv-Safe certification requirements. Additionally, the position entails some afternoon and evening catering duties, which will require flexibility and creativity in menu and food item development.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years’ experience in a school food service operation, with supervisory and food management expertise. They should be proficient in commercial kitchen equipment and possess strong computer literacy, particularly with food service point of sale (POS) systems, and have experience working in union environments. This role demands excellent communication skills to effectively interact with management, parents, staff, and students alike. The candidate should be capable of training and fostering a positive work environment for kitchen staff, ensuring adherence to sanitation and safety standards while creatively contributing to the food service offerings.

- Minimum five years in a school food service operation
- Successful completion of school food service training courses
- Two-year Associate Degree preferred in Hospitality Management, Dietetics, Nutrition, or related Food Service curriculum
- Supervisory experience with 20 employees or more
- Serv-Safe certification
- Minimum two year experience with food ordering and inventory control
- Computer literate with a minimum two year experience with a food service POS system
- Experience working in a union environment
- Ability to communicate well at all levels including management, parents, staff and students
- Ability to perform all tasks performed by kitchen staff
- Good attendance and punctuality a must
- Able to drive a 14' box truck van with chauffeur license
