The Traffic Management Center (TMC) Operator is a pivotal role focused on real-time traffic monitoring and management for the LBJ and NTE Managed Lane Projects. This position requires constant vigilance to identify and respond promptly to traffic incidents, incidents that could impact motorist safety and corridor efficiency. Operators utilize advanced traffic management systems, closed circuit television (CCTV), and various data sources like Waze and network feeds to detect accidents, construction, congestion, and hazards. The role demands engagement with incident responders and other agencies, effective communication via radio and telephone, and active management of traffic signage and toll pricing to manage flow and safety dynamically. Operators must also conduct system diagnostics and coordinate with maintenance teams to quickly resolve operational issues. The role is essential, often involving shift work including nights and weekends, requiring flexibility, fast decision-making, multitasking skills, and a calm, problem-solving approach in a high-pressure environment.
