The Supervisor Food Service role at Syracuse University is a full-time, exempt position located on the Syracuse campus within the Office of Chief Operations Officer. Paying approximately $69,000 annually, this position is pivotal in managing the day-to-day operations of one of the university's more than 30 diverse on-campus dining locations. These include "All You Care to Eat" dining rooms, cafés, coffee houses, brand franchises, and retail convenience stores. The Supervisor will provide direct supervision to union employees, student workers, and part-time staff, ensuring compliance with safety protocols, brand standards, and exemplary customer service. This leadership position demands a hands-on approach to managing staff by hiring, scheduling, training, and coordinating payroll while addressing labor concerns in collaboration with campus partners. Additionally, the Supervisor will maintain product inventory, conduct forecasting, and monitor key performance metrics such as patron usage, labor costs, and food expenditures to drive operational efficiency.
This role requires excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills to make autonomous, data-driven decisions aligned with departmental strategies. Flexibility in working hours and the ability to rotate shifts across various campus dining areas will be necessary. Physical demands include prolonged standing and walking, moderate lifting, and manual tasks consistent with food service operations. - Associate degree in hospitality, restaurant or business management or related field
- Five or more years of combined supervisory and food service experience
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Strong analytical and computer skills
