GateGroup is currently seeking a motivated and engaged Sous Chef, Operations, to join their dynamic culinary team. This full-time position reports directly to the Executive Sous Chef or the Executive Chef for the unit and plays a critical role in helping design and prepare meals specifically tailored for airline customers. The Sous Chef, Operations will provide culinary expertise and leadership within a fast-paced, high-volume food production environment, promoting quality food services while ensuring strict adherence to food safety and sanitation regulations. The successful candidate will contribute to the planning and execution of daily food production efforts, working closely with Food Supervisors and other culinary staff to meet customer specifications and labor objectives.
The role offers an annual salary range of $77,968.80 to $78,000.00, highlighting the company’s commitment to attracting top culinary talent. One of the key responsibilities of the Sous Chef, Operations includes supervising the kitchen department to ensure quality and quantity standards are met, implementing food safety coding systems compliant with FDA, USDA, and HAACP regulations, and optimizing work schedules to balance productivity and cost control. The Sous Chef will oversee raw material ordering, staff assignment, and ensure all food preparation meets the highest standards of quality. This position requires a hands-on approach to managing kitchen operations, ensuring cleanliness throughout each shift, and consistently delivering food products that exceed customer expectations.
Beyond day-to-day operations, the Sous Chef, Operations will play a vital role in staff development and retention. This involves coaching, counseling, and providing constructive feedback to culinary team members, while maintaining compliance with union or collective bargaining agreements where applicable. The individual is expected to foster a positive work environment through effective leadership and communication, driving continuous improvements in unit performance and employee engagement. Compliance with company policies, training requirements (including ServSafe certification), and operational procedures is mandatory to maintain the highest standards of workplace safety and food hygiene.

This position requires physical stamina as the Sous Chef, Operations will regularly stand, bend, lift, and move intermittently during shifts that may exceed 10 hours. The work environment includes typical production kitchen conditions such as temperature fluctuations and noise. Candidates must be able to lift and move items over 25 pounds and be prepared to work a rotating schedule that averages over 55 hours per week. Travel of up to 25% may be required. The ability to effectively manage a diverse team of up to 40 employees and maintain strong external partnerships with airline customers is essential.
