The Sommelier role at Oxford Commons is pivotal in elevating the restaurant's beverage program to new heights. This role is responsible for the quality and consistency of the beverage offerings, focusing predominantly on wines, through meticulous management and staff education. The Sommelier will work closely with the management team to ensure seamless operations from wine inventory and cellar organization to guiding guests in their wine selections. The position involves leading wine training programs for both new and existing staff to foster a knowledgeable and confident team. The Sommelier acts as the wine expert on the dining floor, providing personalized service to enhance the guest experience by recommending wines and maintaining detailed guest preference notes. In addition to guest interaction, the Sommelier is charged with overseeing logistics such as sales strategies, restocking, and delivery coordination to optimize the department’s efficiency. They also manage inventory rigorously by conducting monthly counts, updating records, and ensuring all menu and POS information accurately reflects current stock. Financial responsibilities include maximizing profitability through promotions, staff coaching, and maintaining compliance with all alcohol laws and safety standards. Physical demands are inherent to the role, and candidates must be capable of handling physical aspects such as lifting wine cases and standing for extended periods. The Sommelier must stay knowledgeable about industry trends and pursue continuous education, with support from management to achieve relevant certifications.   • Minimum 3 years experience in a Sommelier role
  • WSET Certification Level 1 or 2 required, Level 3 preferred
  • Sommelier Certification Level 1 required, Level 2 preferred
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Strong attention to detail and adherence to standards
  • Excellent communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Strong time management skills and ability to perform under pressure in a high-volume environment
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items up to 30 pounds
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving throughout the facility
  • Manual dexterity, good vision, and hand-eye coordination for handling wine service tools and equipment
