The role of Animal Care Technician is a seasonal, hourly, non-benefitted position within the Animal Services Department of Guilford County Government. The position is focused on providing daily care to animals housed in the shelter facility. At a rate of $15.34 hourly, this role involves cleaning, feeding, and housing animals while maintaining sanitary conditions in the kennel areas. The Animal Care Technician is essential to ensuring a healthy, safe, and comfortable environment for animals in a fast-paced shelter setting. This job requires commitment to teamwork, the ability to work independently, and flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, including attendance at mandatory training. Animal Care Technicians perform various critical duties such as disinfecting animal living spaces, maintaining food and water supplies, providing behavioral observations, and supporting adoption efforts by interacting with visitors and prospective adopters. Candidates must be knowledgeable in basic animal husbandry, disease management, and humane handling practices. The role requires the capability to maintain detailed records using computerized management systems, strong communication skills to effectively deal with clients and colleagues, and the ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and moving animals and supplies up to 50 pounds.
