The role of a Buehler's Cook involves preparing fresh, high-quality meals for customers dining in their restaurants, which serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This role is pivotal to achieving Buehler's strategy of being the best in food service and offering the freshest foods in the region—all based on one meal at a time. These Food Service teammates are passionate about food preparation and service, strictly following established food production programs and safety procedures to ensure the highest standards for customers. Cooks use equipment such as grills and fryers to prepare food, organize and set up stations, adhere to sanitation and hygiene regulations, and assist with food preparation as needed.
The successful candidate will be people-minded, enjoying teamwork and collaboration in a supportive environment. A customer-focused attitude is essential, delivering friendly, prompt, and courteous service that turns every meal into a memorable experience. Food presentation is also important, as emphasis is placed on offering attractive, appetizing dishes. Stability and composure are valued traits, especially during busy periods and special holidays, ensuring consistent performance under pressure. The best candidates are detail-oriented, able to multitask efficiently with minimal supervision, and open-minded with a flexible approach to scheduling, including weekend availability. The company is committed to creating an inclusive work environment and encourages applicants who share these values to apply.
Potential teammates must be at least 18 years old to work with equipment such as slicers and choppers, though those aged 16 to 17 may still apply but will not operate certain machinery. Physical demands include occasional standing, reaching, lifting up to 80 pounds, bending, kneeling, stooping, climbing, pushing, and pulling. Manual dexterity and good auditory and visual skills are required, along with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions and perform basic math calculations. The kitchen environment includes exposure to heat, steam, fire, and noise, with equipment like ovens, stoves, dishwashers, slicers, coffee machines, steamers, mixers, and chef's knives. Reasonable accommodations are made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.
Although prior line cook experience is considered a plus, it is not required, as the company is eager to train motivated new hires. Career growth is a cornerstone of Buehler's Fresh Foods culture, with many full-time managers having started in entry-level positions. This commitment to employee development empowers team members to take control of their career paths within the company.
