The role of Cook at Benchmark Senior Living is integral to maintaining the health and happiness of the community’s residents through nutritious and flavorful meal preparation. This is a full-time position that demands adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local food safety standards as well as the policies set forth by Benchmark. The Cook works under the direction of the Food Services Director to ensure that meals meet both quality and nutritional standards, while also being served with attention to presentation and taste.
In this position, the Cook will be responsible for reviewing menus before food preparation, conducting administrative tasks such as completing reports and forms, and operating kitchen equipment safely and efficiently. Additionally, the Cook will organize kitchen storage areas like the walk-in freezer and storerooms, and assist in coordinating food production lines to ensure timely meal preparation. The role also involves interacting positively with residents and their families, representing Benchmark Senior Living with pride and professionalism.
This is a physically demanding role that requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and withstand exposure to varying temperatures in the kitchen environment. The successful candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, with culinary arts training considered an advantage, along with at least two years of dietary experience. Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to follow both written and oral instructions, and knowledge of dietary procedures and food service regulations are essential for success.
The Cook is expected to provide leadership within the kitchen team, working harmoniously with both professional and non-professional staff members to maintain smooth kitchen operations.
