This specific opportunity is for a position within Food Lion's Perishable Department located in Portsmouth, Virginia, at Store 02659 (Market 7236103). The role involves directly engaging with customers and managing the quality and presentation of perishable goods, including meat, dairy, frozen foods, lunchmeat, and ice cream. The primary purpose is to provide quality customer service while maintaining departmental standards in line with Food Lion's standard practice manual. The successful candidate will play a key role in maximizing sales and minimizing product shrink by effectively utilizing company tools and adhering to policies and guidelines regarding ordering, receiving, rotating, and displaying merchandise.
The position requires attentiveness to fast, friendly, and accurate customer service to create a positive shopping environment. The associate will be responsible for receiving deliveries, coding products when applicable, rotating stock, maintaining proper product levels, and processing meat such as beef and ground products. This position also includes the assembly, cleaning, and maintenance of equipment such as grinders, as well as the proper cleaning and sanitization of the department. Compliance with food safety, workplace safety, local, state, and federal regulations is paramount. The role demands that associates uphold Food Lion's appearance standards by wearing the company uniform with name badge and maintaining neatness during their shifts.
Additionally, candidates must successfully complete relevant training sessions, including computer-based training and other provided educational materials, to ensure they are well-equipped to perform their duties effectively. The position is physically demanding and requires the ability to stand for the entire shift, perform repetitive motions, lift and move products weighing up to 50 pounds at times, and tolerate working in varying temperature conditions for brief periods.
