The Jr. Sous position at Urban Plates is an entry-level leadership development role within the Operations department designed for team members aspiring to advance into management positions. Reporting directly to the General Manager, this non-exempt role offers a competitive pay rate ranging from $18.04 to $18.50 per hour, plus average tips between $3.96 and $4.68 per hour. The Jr. Sous is essential to maintaining the high standards of food quality, presentation, and guest satisfaction that Urban Plates is known for. Responsibilities include assisting the management team with daily kitchen operations such as receiving food and packaging orders, opening and closing the kitchen, expediting and assembling take-out orders, and ensuring that all food-related work areas and equipment are organized, clean, and sanitary.
This role demands a thorough understanding of culinary techniques to consistently deliver menu items that meet quality, appearance, portion control, and temperature standards. The Jr. Sous supports maintaining a safe working environment by upholding safety protocols, properly handling kitchen equipment, and applying advanced knife skills. In addition to kitchen duties, the Jr. Sous assists with inventory management, cost control, purchasing, and rotation of products to maximize shelf life and sanitation compliance. The position also requires effective communication with team members and guests to promptly address concerns and maintain a satisfying dining experience.
