The Medical Support Specialist (Plasma Center Nurse) plays a crucial role within BioLife Plasma Services. Reporting to the Plasma Center Manager, this position is integral to ensuring donor eligibility and safety through thorough medical assessments, managing donor adverse events, and overseeing laboratory test results. The role demands adherence to plasma collection industry regulations and manufacturing environment standards, all while following protocols laid out by BioLife Medical Affairs. This position involves the provision of environmental, health, and safety support at the plasma center level.
The Medical Support Specialist performs various essential duties, including conducting informed consent processes, educating donors about AIDS, handling confidential self-exclusion requests, evaluating medical history, conducting physical examinations, and reviewing blood testing and Serological Protein Electrophoresis (SPE) results. The role also requires managing donor reactions and medical emergencies by adhering to standard operating procedures and coordinating with Center Physicians or Medical Affairs as needed. Additionally, the specialist supports employee health initiatives, such as Hepatitis B and Seasonal Flu vaccination programs and manages employee incidents with appropriate referrals to occupational health or emergency services.
Beyond medical responsibilities, this role may include acting as a Pandemic Coordinator when authorized, supporting investigations related to pandemic threats as guided by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and Medical Affairs. This role is part-time, with the starting hourly wage at $16.00 for the Toledo, Ohio location, adhering to applicable state or local wage requirements.                 - High school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of recognized nursing program with state requirements
 - Current license or certification as EMT-Paramedic in the state where responsibilities are assigned
 - Current CPR and AED certification
 - Fulfill state requirements for basic IV therapy
 - Completion of FDA approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
 - Two years clinical or hospital experience
