The Medical Support Specialist, also known as the Plasma Center Nurse, plays a critical role in plasma center operations. Reporting to the Plasma Center Manager, this role involves determining donor eligibility to donate plasma, managing donor adverse events, reviewing laboratory test results, and communicating unsuitable test results to donors when necessary. This position requires a blend of clinical expertise, customer service skills, and compliance knowledge. The Medical Support Specialist operates under the guidance of the Center Manager for operational issues and the Center Physician for medical concerns.
The Medical Support Specialist must be well-versed in the regulations governing plasma collection and manufacturing environments. Key responsibilities include evaluating donors through medical history interviews, physical examinations, blood testing, and reviewing serological protein electrophoresis results. The role also includes managing donor reactions and following emergency procedures outlined in standard operating procedures, including the development of standing orders and coordinating donor transport to emergency care facilities when necessary. The specialist refers medical issues to the Center Physician or Medical Affairs and supports vaccination programs for employees, such as Hepatitis B and seasonal flu vaccines.
In addition to donor care, the Medical Support Specialist manages employee incidents and decides when further medical evaluation is necessary. They may also serve as Pandemic Coordinators, assisting in investigations related to local community pandemics as directed by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or Medical Affairs teams.
This full-time, non-exempt position based in Boise, Idaho, offers an hourly wage range of $22.69 to $31.20, depending on experience and qualifications. - high school diploma or equivalent including graduate equivalent of a recognized educational nursing program with state requirements
- current licensure or certification as LPN or LVN in the assigned state
- valid CPR and AED certification
- completion of FDA approved training for BioLife Medical Support Specialist
- minimum two years clinical or hospital experience
- fulfillment of state requirements for basic IV therapy
