The Full-Time Pilot position for the EAST base in Baltimore, MD, supports the STAT MedEvac 10 operations and offers a dynamic role for experienced helicopter pilots. This role involves performing as the Pilot in Command within a critical care transport team, where the pilot assumes full responsibility and authority for the safe operation of the assigned aircraft on all flights. The Pilot in Command must ensure airworthiness of the helicopter, maintain currency with all FAA qualifications, and comply with CEM policies and FAA regulations. This demanding role requires independent judgment to provide the safest and most efficient air transportation of patients under highly challenging, rapidly changing conditions.
Pilots in this role work a schedule that typically consists of (7) 12-hour shifts within a two-week pay period, usually 7 days on followed by 7 days off, and involve rotating days and nights to ensure continuous service. UPMC supports its pilots with up to five and a half weeks of paid time off annually, competitive medical, vision, and dental benefits, and participation in a retirement program with employer contributions. This pilot role is integral to the mission, goals, and objectives of the STAT MedEvac system, working closely with both medical crew members and aviation management to uphold safety and operational excellence. Responsibilities include thorough preflight and postflight inspections, accurate completion of all required documentation and reports, adherence to safety protocols, and mentoring newly hired pilots when necessary. The pilot must maintain fitness for duty, adhere to employee health requirements, and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, reflecting a positive attitude even in high-stress situations. Compliance with uniform policies, patient privacy laws, regulatory requirements, and participation in regular training such as instrument approaches and emergency procedures are essential to successful performance in this critical role.
