The role of Cook at INTEGRIS Health in Edmond is a crucial component of the Food Services team, playing an essential role in supporting patient care through the preparation and provision of nutritious and properly prepared meals. This position involves preparing and portioning food for patients, employees, and special functions within the facility. The Cook is responsible for following all food preparation and storage guidelines as mandated by the Oklahoma State Health Department to ensure the highest food safety and sanitation standards are met. In addition, the Cook may assist in planning menus, maintaining daily meal counts, managing inventories, and contributing to the upkeep of the menu planning book and food orders. The position requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols including National Patient Safety Goals, and effective communication with the Food Services team and supervisory staff.
The Cook will be expected to perform various baking tasks and is responsible for cleaning and properly using kitchen equipment, as well as reporting any necessary repairs. Special attention is given to compliance with standards of quality food handling and sanitation, which are critical within the healthcare environment to protect the health of patients and staff. For certain departments like Children's Place and IMH (Institute for Mental Health), the Cook is also tasked with documenting meals and snacks served each day in accordance with the Federal School Lunch guidelines, reflecting the specialized dietary needs and regulations that apply in these settings.
Physically, the role may involve variable demands such as the risk of cuts while using knives, burns from cooking equipment, slips on wet floors, and exposure to temperature extremes such as heat from stoves and cold air from walk-in freezers. Proper training and adherence to safety practices are essential to minimize hazards. - Must be able to read and write English and know basic math
- 1 year previous food service experience as a cook or in a Food Prep 1 position preferred
- Must be able to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written)
- Experience with the Federal School Lunch Program preferred (Children's Place and IMH only)
