These facilities play a crucial role in enhancing the morale and welfare of service members by maintaining safe, functional, and welcoming environments. The Navy Exchange primarily offers retail services, including a range of merchandise and services to meet the daily needs of military communities. The Navy Lodge provides affordable and convenient temporary housing for military members and their families, often serving as a critical resource during relocations, deployments, or travel.
Maintaining the infrastructure of these establishments is essential for their smooth operation and to ensure the safety and satisfaction of patrons and staff. The Maintenance Associate position is integral to this mission, fulfilling a wide variety of upkeep, maintenance, and repair tasks across the Navy Exchange and Navy Lodge facilities. This role involves performing preventive maintenance on various equipment and addressing repairs related to carpentry, painting, electrical systems, plumbing, and grounds maintenance. The maintenance associate will work with a range of hand and power tools and heavy equipment, demonstrating skill and judgment in completing assignments independently under general supervision.
In addition to executing scheduled maintenance, associates are responsible for monitoring the condition of facilities and equipment, reporting hazardous or unserviceable items, and maintaining inventory of maintenance supplies. They may also operate motor vehicles as required, following Department of Transportation regulations and maintaining associated records. This role demands physical stamina and the ability to work comfortably in varying conditions, both indoors and outdoors, often involving strenuous tasks such as lifting heavy materials and working in confined or awkward spaces.
The optimal candidate for this position will have a strong background in building maintenance with specific expertise in painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs. A valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with a Class B endorsement is required when operating vehicles over 26,000 pounds, along with meeting DOT physical and medical standards and passing a pre-employment drug screening.
