Within Hampton City Schools, the Food and Nutrition Services Department plays a critical role in supporting student health and academic performance by delivering nutritious and well-balanced meals that meet the highest standards of food safety and nutritional guidelines. The Food Service Manager position within the Food and Nutrition Services Department is a full-time role with a 10-month employment period, offering a pay grade of H-09 with an hourly salary range between $15.95 and $20.62. This role reports directly to the Director of Food and Nutrition Services and is integral to the successful operation of the school meal programs. The Food Service Manager ensures that food service operations meet all regulatory and safety standards while promoting nutrition education and healthy eating habits among students. In this role, the Food Service Manager is responsible for comprehensive oversight of food service activities, including ordering, receiving, handling, preparing, cooking, storing, warming, and serving meals in accordance with the Food and Nutrition Policies and Procedures Manual. The manager strictly adheres to HACCP procedures, Virginia Department of Health regulations, and the department’s own standards to guarantee food safety from procurement through service. Accurate maintenance of child nutrition paperwork such as inventory records, production data, payroll, and financial documents is essential to the role, ensuring transparency and accountability. The Food Service Manager will also develop staffing schedules to maintain the designated level of labor hours, conduct staff training, performance evaluations, and implement improvement plans to maintain a motivated and efficient team. Additionally, this position involves planning and executing nutrition education promotions designed to increase student participation in meal programs while fostering awareness of lifelong healthy eating habits. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications such as email, word processing, and spreadsheets is required for daily administrative functions.   • Associates degree or equivalent educational experience with academic major in food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education, culinary arts, business, or a related field
  • Requires two-three years experience in the food service industry
  • Two to three years experience as a food service manager or supervisor preferred
  • ServSafe certification required
