The Kidcam Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program is a volunteer-based position that provides young leaders with a hands-on introduction to camp counseling. This role is perfectly suited for motivated and enthusiastic teenagers who want to develop leadership skills, earn service hours, and prepare themselves for paid counselor opportunities once they turn 15. The CIT program is structured into three phases: pre-camp, during camp, and post-camp. During the pre-camp phase, CITs participate in orientation and training sessions where they learn about camp expectations, safety protocols, camper supervision basics, daily schedules, and the importance of their role in supporting both campers and counselors. Throughout the camp season, CITs assist counselors by helping manage group activities, organize games, contribute to snack and lunch programs, and provide additional supervision during swimming and transitions between activities. In addition to hands-on support, CITs gain insight into camp operations and leadership by engaging with directors and staff, learning about decision-making processes and the behind-the-scenes efforts that keep the camp running smoothly.
