The position available is for a Line Cook, an essential role within the kitchen team responsible for the preparation of all foods in a commercial kitchen setting. The Line Cook will be directly supervised by the Executive Chef and is classified as an exempt position. In this role, the Line Cook will ensure that all food service standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed meticulously to guarantee both food quality and safety. The primary responsibility involves preparing both hot and cold food items using a variety of kitchen equipment, such as pizza ovens, charbroilers, griddles, steam tables, blast chillers, combitherms, woks, tilt skillets, fryers, and convection ovens. The Line Cook also plays a vital role in food merchandising, ensuring that all products are properly packed, labeled, and rotated following company standards to maintain price integrity and quality control.
Customer service is a key component of this position, as the Line Cook interacts directly with customers at the workstation, maintaining a high level of satisfaction through excellent service and product quality. The role also involves maintaining production logs, restocking kitchen supplies, and performing essential cleaning and sanitation duties to uphold a safe and hygienic work environment. Additionally, the Line Cook may be required to make announcements, perform demonstrations, and assist with various setup and breakdown tasks in the kitchen and service lines.
The working conditions for this role include a fast-paced kitchen environment with exposure to extremely hot and cold temperatures, ranging from warehouse and kitchen areas at 100 degrees plus to chill areas at 35 degrees and freezers below zero. Potential hazards include handling hot pans and trays, operating grills, ovens, steamers, fryers, using cleaning chemicals, and working with sharp knives and slicing machinery.
Physical demands are significant, requiring candidates to be at least 18 years old due to the operation of heavy machinery, to stand for extended periods (4-10 hours), carry heavy loads up to 80 pounds, and push or pull up to 1000 pounds. Flexibility to work various shifts including early mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overnight shifts is essential.
