The role of a Line Cook within Student Life Dining Services is a critical position that directly contributes to the culinary and dining experience on campus. Under the supervision of the Assistant Chef and Unit Chef, the Line Cook is responsible for preparing a variety of food items, from proteins and starches to soups, sauces, and a la carte dishes. This role requires proficiency in operating standard kitchen equipment and the ability to interpret recipes accurately to maintain quality and consistency. Line Cooks work as part of a dynamic culinary team, collaborating closely with colleagues to meet the high-volume demands of campus dining operations, which serve thousands of customers daily. This position involves both preparing cook-to-order items and managing grab-n-go food selections, which demands flexibility, efficiency, and attention to detail. In addition to food preparation, the Line Cook maintains cleanliness and organization within their station and the kitchen overall. This includes tasks such as cleaning equipment, sweeping and mopping floors, managing food waste responsibly, and ensuring refrigerators and work areas meet health and safety standards. The role requires physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds, and demands strict adherence to safety practices. The position offers a regular full-time schedule, typically from 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, with rotating weekends, providing a structured work environment with predictable hours.
