KBR is currently seeking a highly motivated and adaptable Lead Flight Engineer to join its team in Dallas, TX, supporting the Navy’s Advanced Sensor Technologies Program Office (AST PO). This role is pivotal in supporting airborne system testing and reporting for advanced sensor systems integrated into Navy aircraft such as the P-8A. The Lead Flight Engineer will perform qualified flight test engineering support as well as provide aircrew expertise as a P-8A Project Specialist during airborne test and evaluation of AST systems.
The position primarily operates within the DFW area across customer, contractor, and KBR facilities but requires approximately 25% travel to support the demanding schedule of flight tests and evaluations. This role demands a professional with a strong background in aviation engineering, test and evaluation procedures, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced, high-stakes environments. The candidate must be highly organized, an effective communicator, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while adhering to strict timelines.
The Lead Flight Engineer will play a crucial role in the planning, execution, and assessment of operational testing (OT) throughout the program lifecycle. Responsibilities include serving as a key contributor in OT planning and progress meetings, offering valuable recommendations to improve processes, and preparing independent assessments highlighting deficiencies and operational impacts. The role also supports management of acceptance testing efforts and provides timely, accurate updates on test program status.
In addition to test and evaluation duties, the Lead Flight Engineer will participate in systems engineering technical reviews such as system readiness reviews, preliminary design reviews, and critical design reviews. The role involves collaborating with program management and participating in test readiness reviews, technical interchanges, and proposal reviews related to test and evaluation missions. This comprehensive involvement ensures alignment between contract requirements and the contractor’s proposals, validating performance against system-level deliverables.
Candidates must meet specific physical and clearance requirements to maintain flight status, including a Class 2 FAA Medical Certification and Navy Swim/Physiology training. The position requires U.S. citizenship and an active Top Secret security clearance, including an SSBI investigation. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline, relevant aircrew qualifications, experience with AST sensor systems, and various technical certifications such as CompTIA Security+.
