As part of its renowned team, employees are expected to uphold the company’s values of integrity, respect, and excellence while demonstrating a passion for hospitality and teamwork.
The Lead Bartender role at Azul Hospitality plays a crucial role in delivering exemplary food and beverage service to guests. This is a leadership position where the individual is responsible not only for direct guest interaction through bartending duties but also for supervising beverage staff during shifts. The Lead Bartender works closely with the Director of Food & Beverage, Executive Chef, and Food & Beverage Manager to ensure smooth operational leadership and maintain quality standards throughout the beverage service. The core responsibilities include preparing high-quality, freshly crafted cocktails at high volumes, maintaining proper service standards, and contributing to the development of the craft spirit, wine, and beer programs. A significant aspect of the role is the creation and management of a craft cocktail menu that emphasizes classical mixology methods.
Additionally, the Lead Bartender is instrumental in managing inventory—monitoring par levels, preventing waste and theft, and working to lower beverage costs by developing profitable, high-margin programs. This position requires strong organizational skills to oversee the availability and proper use of garnishes, infusions, syrups, and other bar materials consistently. Training the bartending team on service standards, product knowledge, proper alcohol beverage control protocols, and enforcing these standards rigorously forms a vital part of the job. The Lead Bartender also plays a hands-on role in maintaining cleanliness, restocking inventory, conducting opening and closing inventories of spirits, and ensuring all liquor, beer, and wine products are stored safely and securely.
Beyond technical bartending and supervisory tasks, the Lead Bartender must exemplify outstanding customer service by assisting all guests and staff professionally and courteously, always striving to enhance guest satisfaction. The role demands the ability to troubleshoot and ensure that all equipment—such as taps, coolers, blenders, and coffee makers—is clean and fully operational. Compliance with legal age verification and refusal of service to minors or intoxicated persons is a critical responsibility. Safety and cleanliness standards must be maintained from the start to the end of each shift.
Physically, the role requires the ability to work in varying temperature conditions, exert mobility for extended periods, and perform manual tasks such as lifting up to 45 pounds and operating carts weighing up to 250 pounds. Candidates need to be detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing simultaneous functions within limited spaces.
The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and leadership skills, basic computer and mathematical abilities, and in-depth knowledge of spirits, beer, wine, and flavor profiles. Experience with Windows OS, MS Office, PMS, and POS systems is preferred. Candidates should have a minimum of three years of high-volume bar or food service experience, with supervisory or lead bartending experience being highly preferred. Certifications such as Safe Server Alcohol and Food Handlers and age requirements (at least 21 years old) also apply.
