The available position is for a part-time Baker within the food service department. This role is integral to preparing and delivering an attractive and delicious selection of baked goods, especially breads, alongside a variety of other bakery items. The Baker will develop and follow standard recipes that align with the company’s food policy and departmental objectives, prioritizing local and organic food sourcing, consistent product quality, and cost-effective labor and inventory management. Part-time shifts typically run from 10 am to 6:30 pm, and the starting wage is $17.50 per hour. The Baker reports directly to the Food Service Manager and works collaboratively within a team to meet production goals and provide an outstanding customer experience.
In this role, Bakers are expected to perform daily inventory tasks, monitor ingredient pricing, adhere strictly to recipe standards, and ensure product freshness and presentation. A commitment to maintaining high standards for food safety, sanitation, and regulatory compliance is essential. The Baker takes responsibility for maintaining a clean and well-organized work area, managing bakery ingredient inventory, preparing bakery displays, and accommodating diverse dietary preferences including vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options.
Additionally, the Baker collaborates closely with the Deli Manager to coordinate bakery equipment and supply needs, introduce new recipes while ensuring accurate costings, and track bakery sales and losses to optimize production quantities. Seasonal and holiday specialty items are also developed under this role, demonstrating creativity alongside consistency.
Superior customer service skills are vital, as the Baker interacts regularly with customers and colleagues to ensure a welcoming and pleasant environment. This includes greeting customers, maintaining awareness throughout the store, and going above and beyond to exceed expectations.
The position requires the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while remaining calm and organized. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are needed to effectively coordinate production schedules and report any operational needs or concerns promptly. Bakers are expected to train and supervise substitute workers, attend departmental meetings, and participate actively as part of the food service team.
