The Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department is currently recruiting for a Regular Part-Time Assistant Facility Coordinator to support the operations and management of the Kettering Ice Arena. This position offers a competitive pay rate between $17.32 and $23.40 per hour, with pay level determined by the candidate’s skills, knowledge, and abilities. Additional benefits include dental, vision, and life insurance, participation in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS), as well as prorated vacation and sick leave. The role is part-time and designed for current City of Kettering employees, emphasizing internal recruitment to cultivate leadership and continuity within the department. The Assistant Facility Coordinator works closely under the supervision of the Ice Arena Facility Coordinator, playing a key leadership role in the day-to-day running of the facility.
This role requires overseeing facility operations to maintain a safe, engaging environment for patrons while delivering exceptional recreational experiences to the community. Responsibilities include supervising staff, managing schedules, maintaining thorough records such as attendance and maintenance logs, and ensuring the facility is secure and well-maintained. The position also involves operational tasks such as money handling, preparing deposits, using and training staff on ice resurfacing machinery, and supporting skate maintenance including sharpening and inventory management. The Assistant Facility Coordinator helps plan new programs and special events, ensuring that offerings remain diverse, relevant, and well-executed. Effective communication with staff, patrons, and local sports organizations is essential to meet the organization’s standards and community expectations.
The role requires a candidate with a considerable knowledge of ice arena operations, including maintenance, scheduling, programming, and customer service. Leadership capabilities are crucial, with an emphasis on supervising staff, conducting evaluations, and promoting a positive work environment. The candidate should also hold CPR and First Aid certifications or be willing to obtain them through provided training, be a certified ice resurfacer operator, and possess a valid Ohio Drivers License. Preferred candidates will have two to three years of ice arena experience, although some experience is acceptable. This position demands regular and predictable on-site attendance with responsibilities to cover nights and weekend shifts as needed. Through their work, the Assistant Facility Coordinator directly contributes to the success and smooth functioning of the Kettering Ice Arena as a valuable community asset, promoting recreational enjoyment and community engagement on a daily basis.
