Universal Logistics and Parsec currently have immediate career opportunities for motivated individuals in the Columbus, OH area, specifically for the position of Hostler Driver - Ground Person. This is an hourly wage position offering $20.55 per hour. The job begins with training at the Ground Person level, which lasts a minimum of two weeks. A Ground Person is responsible for directing crane operators during cargo container loading and unloading from railcars and performing preparatory tasks such as handling IBC locks on railcars. After the initial training, employees will also be trained to fulfill the Hostler Driver role.
The Hostler Driver is entrusted with safely operating hostler trucks to transport containers and trailers within the terminal yard. This role involves tasks such as moving containers from rail tracks to designated areas for pickup, including maneuvering chassis and containers within tight yard spaces. The position demands strict adherence to safety protocols and company policies to ensure efficient and accident-free operations. Additionally, employees are expected to maintain the yard’s organization, perform basic maintenance checks on equipment, document movements accurately, and collaborate with terminal personnel to maintain smooth workflow.
