The role of the General Manager at TGI Fridays is a pivotal leadership position responsible for overseeing the entire restaurant's operations with the goal of increasing guest satisfaction, sales, and margin growth. This role requires a seasoned professional who can lead and inspire a team of Restaurant Managers and team members, ensuring that all activities align with the brand's standards and values. Key responsibilities include managing day-to-day restaurant operations, supervising multiple managers and frontline staff, controlling profit and loss centers, and executing brand standards through effective team leadership. The General Manager interacts frequently with guests to ensure they experience the signature Fridays Service Style, promptly addressing and resolving any service issues or complaints to maintain high guest satisfaction levels. Utilizing operational theories such as the Bubble Theory and Hamburger Stand Theory, the General Manager proactively manages shifts and prepares the restaurant for outstanding service delivery.
Additionally, the General Manager identifies opportunities to increase sales and traffic by implementing local and national marketing initiatives and maintaining a focus on the restaurant's four-wall profitability. Staffing management involves assessing current and future needs, hiring talented team members, and developing high-potential staff for future leadership roles. The General Manager is responsible for providing honest feedback, coaching, and performance evaluations to all staff members, creating a safe and inclusive work environment, and handling financial and administrative duties such as payroll and inventory management.
Critical decisions made by the General Manager include hiring, termination, wage increases, and resolving employee or guest relations issues in collaboration with human resources and higher management. Ideal candidates will have a four-year college degree preference, a minimum of two years' experience in a supervisory restaurant role, and a strong understanding of financial management, including P&L, budgets, and sales projections.
