Currently, SFO is hiring full-time Cargo Handlers to join its warehouse team. This role is essential in ensuring that freight is managed safely and efficiently, contributing to the timely movement and handling of goods that pass through the airport. Cargo Handlers at SFO play a critical role in supporting airport logistics, dealing with the build-up and breakdown of freight pallets, operating forklifts and other equipment, and ensuring compliance with local safety policies and federal regulations. As a Cargo Handler, employees will be thoroughly trained both in the classroom and on the job to handle a variety of tasks. These tasks include interpreting airway bills, bills of lading, and freight manifests to properly sort and distribute freight. Cargo Handlers also handle the storage of potentially dangerous goods and operate specialized commercial vehicles, necessitating a valid driver's license and adherence to safety protocols. This role requires flexibility to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays, and demands a physically robust individual capable of lifting weights up to 75 pounds repeatedly. The role is well suited for individuals who are quick learners, work well within a team, and are comfortable working in an environment that may involve exposure to outdoor weather conditions, loud noises, and mechanical operations. - Must have high school diploma, GED or equivalent work experience
- must have current driver’s license with no violations over past 5 years
- forklift certification preferred
- must be 18 years of age or older
- must be available and flexible to work variable shifts including weekends and holidays
- must be able to speak, read and write in English proficiently
- must pass driver’s test with Department of Airports and obtain driver’s license to drive on Airport Operational Area
- must pass FBI background check and obtain customs seal
- must be able to lift at least 75 pounds on a continuous basis
- must pass pre-employment medical and drug test
