About UPS Airlines

UPS Airlines operates one of the world's safest and most efficient air cargo networks. Our fleet includes the Boeing 747-8F, 767, and MD-11 freighters, connecting economies and delivering what matters. We are a company of problem solvers, logistics experts, and aviation professionals dedicated to maintaining the flow of global commerce. Our culture is built on integrity, teamwork, and service excellence.

Job Summary

While UPS Airlines transports cargo rather than passengers on our main line, the safety and security of that cargo in flight is paramount. We are hiring International Loadmasters to serve as essential flight crew members on our wide-body freighter aircraft. In this role, you function similarly to a flight attendant for cargo—you are the specialist responsible for the weight and balance, load integrity, and safety of the main deck cargo compartment during flight operations. This position travels with the aircraft to international destinations, managing the complex logistics of loading and unloading at foreign stations.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Weight & Balance Authority: You are responsible for calculating the aircraft's center of gravity and ensuring all cargo is loaded in accordance with strict engineering limits. You must verify load sheets and sign off on the aircraft's readiness for flight.
  • Load Planning & Supervision: Oversee the loading and unloading of Unit Load Devices (ULDs) and hazardous materials. You will direct ground handling teams at international gateways to ensure UPS standards are met, preventing aircraft damage and ensuring efficient turnarounds.
  • In-Flight Safety: During flight, you monitor the cargo systems, fire suppression availability, and the security of the load. You effectively communicate with the Captain regarding any cargo-related anomalies or pressurization issues affecting livestock or temperature-sensitive goods.
  • Hazmat Compliance: Serve as the onboard expert for Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR). You must inspect hazardous materials documentation and packaging to ensure compliance with IATA and FAA regulations before takeoff.
  • Customs & Immigration: Manage the General Declaration forms and crew manifests upon arrival in foreign countries, facilitating the entry and exit of the flight crew and the cargo.

Why Work for UPS? (Benefits & Culture)

As a Flight Crew member, you are part of an elite team. We provide:

  • Global Travel: Travel to Asia, Europe, and the Americas as part of your job duties.
  • Comprehensive Healthcare: Zero-premium health plans for union-represented crew members (where applicable) or competitive corporate plans.
  • Defined Benefit Pension: Secure your retirement with our pension plan.
  • Paid Per Diem: Generous allowances for meals and incidentals while away from base.
  • Crew Rest Facilities: Access to high-quality hotels and transport during layovers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred; High School Diploma required.
  • Previous aviation operations experience (ramp, weight and balance, or cargo handling) is mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain an FAA Airman Certificate (if applicable to specific fleet type).
  • Willingness to travel internationally for up to 14 days at a time.
