The role in question involves a Field Service Technician position based in the Buffalo Metro area, requiring daily travel including to the Buffalo airport. This job entails troubleshooting, servicing, installing (deploying), and repairing critical security equipment such as Trace detection systems, X-Ray, CT X-Ray, and Cargo Inspection machines directly at customer locations. Field service technicians must maintain meticulous service logs, manage parts inventory, and perform all tasks with a customer-first approach. The role demands proactive communication, the ability to conduct customer training, and a commitment to meeting both scheduled and emergency service repair needs swiftly and efficiently.
Beyond technical repair and maintenance, this position emphasizes fostering strong customer relationships, ensuring complete satisfaction, and supporting service sales opportunities. Field Service Technicians are responsible for documenting all maintenance and repair activities and submitting reports promptly. They also collaborate with senior technicians and product managers to stay updated on the latest technical trends. Flexibility in travel, overtime work, and adherence to rigorous safety and security policies, including compliance with U.S. export control and security regulations, are essential.
Candidates must possess a solid foundation in electrical or mechanical fields, demonstrated through an Associate’s degree, related trade certification, military training, or equivalent experience. At least five years of direct field repair experience involving electrical and electronic systems is required. Excellent communication and customer service skills, the ability to work under pressure, physical stamina, and operational knowledge of equipment handling devices are vital qualifications. The position also requires Sensitive Security Information access and may mandate a U.S. personal security clearance.
Smiths Detection offers a competitive salary range of $70,600 to $95,500, depending on the applicant’s qualifications, experience, and alignment with internal and market data. - Possess an associate degree or related trade certification or equivalent military training
- Minimum of 5 years of direct field experience in electrical and electronic systems troubleshooting and repair
- Must have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Strong customer service orientation and ability to multitask several projects simultaneously
- Must be self-motivated, reliable and accountable
- Ability to lift and carry 80 lbs
- Confidence in operating equipment such as carts, hoists, cranes and pallet jacks
- Full body mobility required
- Ability to work safely around industrial equipment
- Must be able to travel daily within the Buffalo Metro area and to the Buffalo airport
- Must be willing and able to respond to emergency service calls within response time goals
- Must comply with company health, safety, and environmental policies
- Must comply with U.S. export control and security regulations
- Must obtain Sensitive Security Information (SSI) access and pass federal background checks
- May require a U.S. personal security clearance
- Must submit expenses, time cards and administrative tasks on time
- Willingness to work overtime and non-standard hours when required
