The role currently available is for a Head Cook at Roosevelt Elementary, a position that plays a critical role in the daily operations of the school's food service department. This is a full-time, year-round position based on the school calendar, with work hours from Monday through Friday for seven hours each day. The starting hourly wage is competitive at $17.43, reflecting the importance the district places on recruiting skilled and dedicated food service personnel. In this position, the Head Cook will be tasked with planning the fresh fruit and vegetable bar daily and collaborating with the Assistant Director to plan the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). The role also includes assisting with point-of-sale operations such as cashiering when needed, demonstrating the versatile nature of the responsibilities involved. Daily duties include preparing breakfast and lunch with an emphasis on scratch cooking, maintaining accurate production records, monitoring meal tray accuracy to meet reimbursable meal requirements, and ensuring compliance with health and safety standards. The position requires a strong working knowledge of kitchen sanitation, food storage practices, and inventory management, including ordering and checking food deliveries.
The Head Cook must also collaborate effectively with coworkers and school staff, maintaining a courteous and professional demeanor at all times.
