Las Cruces, NM, USA, NM Full-Time $25 - $36
The New Mexico State University (NMSU) is a prominent public research institution known for its commitment to academic excellence, community engagement, and fostering student success. Located in Las Cruces, NMSU serves a diverse community through innovative programs and partnerships. The university's Student Success and Enrollment Management division plays a pivotal role in enhancing student outcomes and career readiness by connecting students with employers and community resources. Within this division, the Corporate Relations & Career Events department orchestrates impactful events that bridge the gap between education and industry, helping students transition successfully into their professional lives. The role of Senior Event Planner at NMSU is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to lead the planning and execution of career and community engagement events that create meaningful connections between students, employers, and the broader community. This full-time, exempt position is based in Las Cruces and offers a salary commensurate with qualifications. The Senior Event Planner will be instrumental in designing, coordinating, and managing various career-related programming, including large-scale career fairs, employer engagement activities, career workshops, and outreach initiatives. The planner is expected to bring visionary leadership, comprehensive organizational skills, and an ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting budgetary and operational goals. This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong foundation in event planning principles and the capacity to oversee all logistical and administrative aspects of complex events. Key responsibilities include developing and maintaining event budgets, negotiating contracts, coordinating vendors, managing registrations, and ensuring all event details align seamlessly to deliver an exceptional experience for attendees. Additionally, the Senior Event Planner will serve as a vital link between internal university departments and external stakeholders, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration throughout the event lifecycle. Academic credentials for this role include a bachelor’s degree in a related field, though an associate’s degree combined with significant relevant experience may also qualify candidates. Applicants should possess at least three years of experience directly related to event planning, preferably in educational, corporate, or community settings. Familiarity with budgeting, finance, contract negotiation, and marketing principles are essential to succeed in this role, along with strong interpersonal communication skills, analytical abilities, and problem-solving expertise. The ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, employers, and community partners is critical. The position demands flexibility, particularly during peak event seasons, and may require occasional standing, walking, and handling of medium-weight items. While the work environment is mainly office-based, the planner must be prepared to support on-site event management, troubleshooting real-time challenges and ensuring flawless execution from setup to post-event wrap-up. This role is not part of a bargaining unit and operates under a standard Monday through Friday work schedule, 8 am to 5 pm. NMSU’s Senior Event Planner has a unique opportunity to impact student career readiness and community involvement through expertly curated events that foster professional growth and networking. This dynamic position combines administrative leadership with hands-on event coordination, offering a fulfilling career path for individuals passionate about education, engagement, and event planning excellence.
