The Director of University Events is a pivotal leadership role within the University Marketing and Communications department. Reporting directly to the Vice President of University Marketing and Communications, this full-time exempt position is located at the main campus in Fresno, CA. The Director is responsible for the strategic scheduling, planning, and coordination of campus events, serving as the lead contact for high-profile university functions such as commencements, convocations, and signature university-wide events. This role demands a blend of strategic vision, technical expertise, and operational excellence to ensure exceptional event experiences that align with Fresno Pacific University’s mission and enhance its brand. In addition to overseeing on-campus events, the Director also manages external groups renting campus space, ensuring seamless execution and cost control across all activities. Key responsibilities include the development and implementation of a comprehensive event strategy that supports institutional priorities, overseeing technical aspects such as audio, visual, lighting, and live streaming components, and supervising event staff to promote professional growth and teamwork. The role requires excellence in managing budgets, vendor relationships, and contracts, as well as collaboration with various university departments to support academic, enrollment, advancement, and community goals. The Director must model calm and solutions-oriented leadership in high-pressure situations, consistently deliver a warm and professional guest experience, and implement best practices and innovations in event production. Candidates will bring a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in event planning or hospitality, including leadership roles and technical coordination skills. A bachelor’s degree is required or alternatively, significant directly relevant work experience will be considered. Proficiency with AV and live production systems, event management software like ASTRA, and Microsoft Office Suite is essential. The position may require flexible working hours, including some nights and weekends, and a valid California driver’s license. Starting salary ranges from $68,640 to $77,000 annually, with actual compensation depending on qualifications and experience.
