The Department Manager role at World Wide Wings is integral to the success and smooth operation of the restaurant. This role comes with varying areas of focus depending on the specific department—Heart of House, Bar, or Hospitality—but all Department Managers share common responsibilities related to staff management, operational oversight, safety compliance, revenue and labor control, and employee training and development. The role demands leadership, organizational skills, and a detailed understanding of both the operational and financial aspects of the restaurant.
For the Heart of House Manager, the focus is on managing food and product matters, staff planning, and team member development within the kitchen and food preparation area. This includes ensuring adherence to food quality standards, inventory accuracy, and compliance with health and safety regulations. The Heart of House Manager also assists the General Manager in overall restaurant operation and supervises shift management.
The Bar Department Manager concentrates on the bar area, overseeing adult beverage management including inventory control, ordering, and Responsible Alcohol Service compliance. This role involves hiring, training, and motivating bartenders and bar servers while vigilantly maintaining safety and profitability through efficient revenue management.
The Hospitality Manager primarily oversees the dining room service, managing the hospitality team's planning and development, fostering a customer-friendly environment, and ensuring safety standards. This manager plays a role in executing marketing programs and driving sales incentives within the hospitality department.
All Department Managers are tasked with staffing duties such as recruiting, interviewing, hiring, orienting, training, and developing team members to meet business needs and maintain appropriate staffing levels. They focus on creating development plans, scheduling within budgeted labor guidelines, motivating staff through incentives, giving regular performance feedback, and coaching others on performance management. They must also maintain effective communication within their departments, ensure all team members meet required training and permits, and utilize guest feedback systems to enhance service quality.
Operational responsibilities include facilitating new product rollouts, enforcing recipe adherence and product quality, monitoring equipment functionality, and complying with health codes. Department Managers analyze restaurant performance metrics to identify problem areas, develop action plans, and monitor their implementation. Administrative duties such as invoice entry, inventory tracking, and end-of-day procedures are also part of their role. Each department manager operates within specified financial targets, managing food or beverage costs, labor costs, inventory accuracy, and implements sales-building initiatives.
