The University of Saint Francis in Fort Wayne, IN, is currently seeking a part-time Cook to join their Dining Services Department under the Creative Dining Services partnership. This Cook role is crucial to ensuring that the food offered is of high quality, nutritious, and properly seasoned, while also prioritizing safety and fiscal responsibility. The ideal candidate will be a cooperative team player who understands the intricacies of food preparation and the importance of timing and presentation in a dynamic dining service environment.
This position requires the Cook to be involved in the planning and preparation of food using established recipes and menus to maintain freshness, appeal, and nutritional value. The Cook will utilize batch cooking techniques strategically to control food production, minimizing waste and maximizing efficiency. Safe food handling practices are fundamental to this role, including the correct storage, labeling, and dating of food items, as well as maintaining prepared foods at appropriate temperatures (below 40 degrees for cold items and above 135 degrees for hot items). Additionally, the Cook is responsible for maintaining detailed production records, including food usage, overages, shortages, and customer counts, which contribute to effective kitchen management and operational success.
The schedule for this part-time position is Sunday from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, and Monday through Thursday from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, offering a consistent and structured workweek for candidates.
