This full-time role as a Cook at Key Recovery's co-ed long-term residential program involves preparing family-style meals based on a variety of planned menus specifically designed to meet the nutritional needs of patients. The Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking a range of food items such as hot breakfasts, salads, soups, pasta, sandwiches, casseroles, along with fruit and vegetable dishes and baked goods. Quality and consistency of the meals are a top priority to ensure an excellent dining experience that supports the health and well-being of the residents. Beyond culinary duties, this position plays a key role in supporting the Life Skills Program by acting as a role model and sharing cooking skills and knowledge with program participants. Under the guidance of the Kitchen Manager, the Cook helps foster a supportive learning environment where residents can develop valuable life skills related to cooking and nutrition. The work environment involves a large kitchen setup that can be hot and steamy, requiring stamina and adherence to safety protocols. The Cook will handle food preparation including washing, measuring, weighing, chopping, peeling, and mixing ingredients, cooking food using various kitchen equipment, and maintaining food temperature and quality throughout the cooking process. Additionally, the Cook is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the kitchen, following proper food storage procedures, and occasionally supporting special meal preparation as directed by kitchen leadership. Successful candidates must have a High School diploma or equivalent, with an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts preferred. Experience of at least one year in a commercial or catering kitchen, knowledge of cooking methods such as grilling, baking, and boiling, and the ability to work well within a team are essential. The position requires a Food Handler Certification, passing a Washington State Patrol (WSP) background check, drug testing, and TB testing. This demanding role includes regularly standing for long periods, lifting various kitchen items, and working amid the typical kitchen environment challenges such as heat, noise, and cleaning chemicals.
