The Food Service Worker role at Brown University Health is integral to the overall mission of enhancing patient care through superior food service operations. Under the general supervision of the Food Services Supervisor, incumbents are responsible for preparing and distributing nutritious, high-quality food for hospital patients and staff. The role requires familiarity with a variety of cooking techniques and operations, as well as adherence to strict food safety standards such as HACCP. Food Service Workers work closely with the Food Services Supervisor to review menus, plan cooking schedules, and ensure that food is prepared to meet both nutritional standards and patient preferences. This position involves estimating food quantities, controlling portions to reduce waste, and preparing specialized diets as required.
The position is per diem with variable shift hours, including mornings, evenings, rotating weekends, and holidays. Located in Providence, Rhode Island, the role operates within a supportive team environment focused on delivering customer-friendly, geographically accessible, and high-value food services as part of an academic health system. The pay range spans from $17.69 to $27.90 per hour. - high school diploma or equivalent
- 2 to 3 years experience in food service
- certification as Food Safety Manager by National Registry of Food Safety Professionals
- thorough understanding of HACCP food safety
- ability to work variable shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays
