Delta Air Lines, Inc. is a globally recognized leader in the airline industry, known for its comprehensive international network and commitment to exceptional customer experiences. As one of the world's foremost airlines, Delta Air Lines operates a large fleet and serves millions of passengers annually, establishing itself as a benchmark in safety, reliability, and customer service. The company's headquarters is located in Atlanta, Georgia, a bustling hub that supports its vast operations and strategic initiatives. Within Delta, the Flight Operations Division plays a pivotal role, tasked with maintaining the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. The division supports a vast team of over 17,000 pilots, ensuring that each flight meets stringent regulatory and company standards. The division's mission goes beyond simply operating flights — it strives to exceed customer expectations by delivering reliable and efficient service across all facets of flight operations. A critical component of Flight Operations is the Regulatory Compliance department, which acts as the essential link between Delta and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This department oversees regulatory approval processes critical to Delta's operations, such as route authorizations, Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) application updates, and other compliance-related matters. The team collaborates extensively with various departments within Flight Operations, including Network Planning, Legal, and Technical Operations, to support Delta’s global operational footprint. Within Regulatory Compliance, the Co-Op team operates under the guidance of a Manager and two Program Managers, tackling a broad and dynamic portfolio of responsibilities. This team works closely not only with internal Flight Operations business units such as Fleet Teams, Chief Pilot Offices, Technical Pilots, Legal, Navigation Services, and Flight Control but also interfaces with Delta’s corporate divisions and the FAA. These collaborations involve supporting pilot training, standards development, drafting manuals, handling country permits, managing charting and database updates, dispatching flights, and coordinating customer service and inflight service functions. The Co-Op position at Delta Air Lines provides a unique opportunity for aspiring aviation professionals to gain hands-on experience in a world-class operational environment. This role is based at Delta's World Headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, offering paid employment with the additional benefit of standby travel privileges anywhere across Delta’s extensive network. The Co-Op arrangement currently follows a hybrid work model, with four days per week on campus and one day potentially remote, thereby balancing collaboration with flexibility. In this role, the Co-Op will directly support the Program Managers in efforts to enhance process quality and efficiency. Tasks include assisting the Delta Legal team with country permits and new destination filings and addressing challenges that arise in foreign operational territories. The position also involves designing and implementing process improvements to support the Quality team, including Safety Management System (SMS) initiatives and quality audits. Emphasis is placed on autonomy, with opportunities to lead a capstone project focused on automation and fostering cross-functional collaboration within Flight Operations. The Co-Op role offers substantial benefits beyond day-to-day tasks. Participants receive mentoring from experienced aviation professionals, gaining invaluable insights into complex problem-solving and operational management. Co-Ops have Jump Seat Authority, enabling them to observe flights and pilot procedures firsthand using an assigned EFB, thereby deepening their practical understanding of aviation operations. Additionally, the role provides exposure to various Delta departments, including Dispatch, Weather, Load Control, Pilot Assist, and Chief Pilot Offices, among others. Technologically, the Co-Op will engage with and develop skills in platforms such as Tableau, Smart Sheets, MS Excel Macros, FAA SAS, and utilize aircraft manuals — all tools critical to modern aviation operations. The position offers challenges that enrich resume development and broadens understanding of foreign country operations, including navigating the complexities of gaining and maintaining regulatory approvals internationally. Overall, this Co-Op role at Delta Air Lines is designed to cultivate future aviation professionals by providing rich, hands-on exposure to one of the world’s leading airlines, combining operational insight, regulatory experience, and technological proficiency within a supportive, growth-oriented environment.
